Villa Blanca Renovation – A Historical Celebration

As we unveil this breathtaking renovation, we feel truly gratified after three years of dedicated work, to see such a beautiful old St. Thomas property restored to its former glory and updated for the next generation. We envisioned the potential of Villa Blanca as the homeowner was preparing to purchase it and start the renovation and design journey. Even before any work had been completed the life of this house was calling to us.

Island life is all about connecting with the beautiful outdoor surroundings and a certain ease of daily life.  We envisioned an elegant space that is not formal but welcoming, where guests are invited to put their feet up and champagne glasses are full.  Sometimes I can hear the house whisper of its past and present and this one was ready to take on a fresh new chapter full of life and celebrations.

Villa Blanca was cherished by the same family for three generations and has been the backdrop for some fabulous parties. Inspired by this legacy, we infused the renovation with our signature barefoot elegance, a mix of bespoke details and contemporary style that honors and commemorates life’s special moments, such as weddings, anniversaries, and other occasions that deserve a genuinely magical setting.

Fit for Celebrations

If the historical use of the home was unknown the features within it are key indicators which invite relaxation and celebration. As you walk through the home each design element and architectural feature usher you in to join the party.

There are plenty of spaces for gathering and entertaining like the open bar area that opens to the cozy lounge, as well as the great room aside the pool table, and whimsical dining room. Each space offering you a wonderful experience as it has its time to shine within the flow of the home and invites you to enjoy and stay a while.

Looking Up to Preserving the Past

The gorgeous plaster work and coffered ceilings are original to the house and were part of our primary preservation efforts. Some of the designs have been simplified and updated for the modern era but our goal was to pay homage to the original character of the home by keeping these noteworthy elements that make each space come alive.

One of our favorite rooms in the house is the dining room, with its wallpapered ceiling showcasing a  draped fabric trompe l’oeil motif in a watercolor-inspired palette that complements the richness of the wooden dining table and mirrors the natural body of water beyond the outside dining. We envisioned this room as a distinct gathering place, serving as the backdrop for visitors’ memorable life moments.

How Do You Want to Vacation?

The newly renovated primary bedroom continues the celebration in a relaxed style with its three-hue palm leaf pattern and stunning views. We designed this space with interaction in mind, incorporating a canopy bed overlooking the deck, perfect for enjoying a morning cup of coffee while watching cruise ships sail into the harbor.

In the primary bath, the awe and delight continue with ample space for everyone to get ready for the day. With its double vanity and bamboo mirrors, complemented by the navy floral tile pattern crisp contrast is balanced and invites you in to see more. Surrounding the space, crisp white subway tiles lead you into the enclosed shower wet room with a wall-to-wall niche for everyone’s needs and last but not least, a large soaker tub. The perfect place for relaxing after a long day at the beach.
